Description
Hosted by: Junior League of Miami Leadership Training Committee
Time: 4:00–5:00 PM PST (7:00–8:00 PM EST)
Description
Nonprofit organizations often design programs and write grants based on theory and best practices, yet clients frequently experience something different in practice. This training explores how nonprofits can intentionally transform lived experience into lived expertise and integrate it into policies, programs, governance, and funding decisions.
Participants will examine the gap between “what we say we do” and how services are actually delivered — and learn how incorporating lived expertise can improve program design, accountability, and impact.
Participants will:
- Understand the difference between lived experience and lived expertise
- Identify gaps between program design, grant language, and real-world service delivery
- Explore ethical ways to include lived experience in decision-making
- Learn strategies to align policy, people, and practice for greater impact
The session will include breakout discussions connecting personal lived experience to Junior League strategic plans.
Facilitator: Mallory Austin, Leadership Training Chair
Speaker: Laurie Scop – Social work professional, public servant, and advocate focused on women and girls. Laurie is an active member of the Junior League of Miami and frequently speaks about lived experience, resilience, and advocacy.
